“The core skill we hope to develop is to learn how to size up a test problem and figure out what tools are relevant without having to be told. Most math curricula teach students how to faithfully reproduce the techniques presented in the current section or chapter, but the students often do not master the skill of identifying the nature of a problem on their own (without hints from the text). Real-life application of math is similar to math contests inasmuch as a person usually isn’t told by someone else what sort of math problem is presented. Part of solving the problem is figuring out what tools are required to do so.”  ~Rob Rye, Math Club Leader
