Spelling Bee/Geography Bee

Spelling Bee

Meetings begin September 13, 2018

Grades: 5-8 (younger students are welcome at the practices but may not compete at the county level)
Weekly on Thursdays
2:30-3:30pm

Place:  The River
Cost (one-time fee): $10/student for FHEA members; $15/student for non-FHEA members (FHEA pays the $130 enrollment fee)

Students in grades 1-8 are able to participate in the homeschool spelling bee, but to move on in the competition (attend county or state), the winner must be in grades 5-8.

Word Lists
We are not allowed to post the spelling lists on the internet, so families need to contact Bonnie Compton to receive copies of the lists. Lists are also available at the practices.

The final homeschool spelling bee will be conducted using the School Spelling Bee Guide (for grades 5-8), provided by Scripps. Students who hope to progress in the competition should master the 5th – 8th grade classroom words as well as the study words for the school bee. The homeschool spelling bee winner should also study the Spell it! words (My Spell It!). The winner of the homeschool bee (or the alternate) will represent the homeschool community at the county bee. The top three winners at teh county bee will progress to the state spelling bee.

Another great resource for learning spelling words is Spelling City
